Kiran Kumar Meda – A sad loss to Golf in India

By Phil Ryan | Golf Architect

The golf community is saddened by the passing of esteemed GIA member, personal friend to many of us and Chairman of Eagleton Golf Village, Mr Kiran Kumar Meda.

Kiran passed away on May 31st 2021 due to illness, he was 49 years old and is survived by his family, wife Preethi, son Dhruva (18) and daughter Dia (14), also his mother Latha and brother Chetan.

I first met Kiran when he came to work during the golf construction at Eagleton in 1996 and was immediately impressed by his humility, friendliness and willingness to work on even the smallest of tasks, even though he was the son of the Developer (Ashok Kumar). He had completed Civil Engineering studies at Rashtriya Vidyalaya College of Engineering in Bangalore and was really keen to work outside on the development of the new 18 hole residential / resort golf course.

The golf course work was very new to him, he was like a sponge and took in everything that was happening as well as asking a multitude of questions, a sign of both a keen mind and a dedication to the Eagleton family dream.

After completing his Master’s in Engineering / Management in USA he returned to Eagleton, eventually becoming a Director of the company and on the passing of his father in 2012, the Chairman & Managing Director.

Kiran, his bother Chetan, Anil Seolekar, Prakash Alvares and myself undertook the first GIA Golf Expo at Eagleton in 2008 which proved to be the start of developing the GIA into an India wide body. Kiran strongly supported golf in Bangalore and along with the team at Eagleton developed an army of new golfers, many of the juniors going onto much acclaim. He and his team had also constructed a second 18 hole residential / resort golf project in Mysore called Eagleburg.

His gentle nature and easy smile will be missed.
