A Kerala cadre IAS officer from the batch of 1990 and a keen golfer, G Kamala Rao, has been appointed as the new Director General (Tourism), Ministry of Tourism.
Before this new development, Rao was appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director of the India Tourism Development Corporation in November 2019, a position which he still holds at present.
Rao has been given the additional charge as DG, Tourism, till the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Rao, after making a move to Delhi in 2019, has played golf regularly at the Delhi GC.
It is a welcome development for the prospects of golf tourism development in India where the Ministry of Tourism plays a major role.
